Welcome to the Iron County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The Iron County Prosecuting Attorney is an elected Iron County official serving a four-year term. The Iron County Prosecuting Attorney is responsible for filling a variety of functions, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Review and authorize felony and misdemeanor adult and juvenile criminal cases;
  • Appear at and prosecute all criminal cases on behalf of the State of Michigan and Iron County;
  • Provide notice to crime victims of victim rights, case progress, and restitution information;
  • Represent Iron County’s interest in civil issues, if designated by the Iron County Board of
  • Commissioners;
  • Establish child support and paternity for children born out-of-wedlock;
  • Participate in mental health commitment proceedings;
  • Participate in guardianship hearings;
  • Represent the Department of Human Services in child abuse/parental neglect cases;
  • Represent the State of Michigan and Iron County in personal protection order violation cases;
  • Appear at formal hearings on civil infraction;
  • Serve as member of the Iron County Gun Board;
  • Represents the Iron County Friend of Court in child support enforcement actions.

Crime Victim Assistance:

The Iron County Crime Victim Rights Coordinator assists victims of crimes by providing the following services upon request:

  • Case progress updates;
  • Referrals for counseling, support groups, and emergency services;
  • crime victim compensation information;
  • victim impact statements;
  • court escorts;
  • restitution information and assistance;
  • orientation to the courtroom setting and information on the criminal process;
  • community education regarding victim rights;
  • provides assistance with filling out personal protection order petitions.

 

Paternity and Support Establishment

The Iron County Prosecuting Attorney represents the State of Michigan in the establishment of paternity and child support. Paternity and Support actions are initiated based on referrals received from the State of Michigan Department of Human Services. The Iron County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the Paternity Support Specialist do not represent either party in custody or parenting time proceedings.
